Buying guide: RAM (Memory)

Choose memory by the system it fits: server and workstation ECC RAM, non-ECC desktop UDIMMs, or non-ECC laptop and mini PC SO-DIMMs. DDR generation, capacity and speed alone do not establish compatibility; confirm module format, ECC support, rank and the manufacturer part number.

Hardware supplied by KahnServers includes a 90-day warranty. Check current availability and the individual product specification before ordering.

Compare registered DDR4 memory by capacity

Browse 32GB DDR4 RDIMMs or 64GB DDR4 RDIMMs, then check the full part number and supported memory layout. For matching batches and mixed requirements, prepare a wholesale server memory enquiry with quantities and target platforms.

Specify the memory layout as well as the capacity

Record the server model and generation, installed processors, occupied DIMM slots and the full labels on existing modules. A target such as total RAM per server still needs a supported choice of capacity per module and installation order. Check whether an upgrade can retain the current modules or needs a different complete layout.

Compare the proposed configuration with the manufacturer's memory documentation, including module technology, supported capacities, rank and speed restrictions. Our guide to mixing server RAM explains why matching capacity alone is insufficient. Include the existing layout and required final capacity when asking about a replacement or a batch for several hosts.
