Buying guide: SAS Hard Drives
Browse SAS hard disk drives for compatible servers and storage arrays. Compare storage capacity, rotational speed, interface details, sector format and carrier information.
SAS drives require a SAS-compatible controller and backplane. Check the exact drive size, firmware requirements and carrier before choosing a replacement.
Hardware supplied by KahnServers includes a 90-day warranty. Check current availability and the individual product specification before ordering.
Match a SAS replacement to the existing storage
Record the original drive part number and the server or array model. Check supported capacity, sector format, firmware and carrier requirements before choosing a replacement. A drive intended for a named storage array may have system-specific requirements, even where its physical size and SAS interface match another listing.
For an array repair, follow the system's supported replacement procedure and check whether the proposed drive meets the array's capacity and format rules. For a new build, confirm the SAS support of the storage controller and backplane as well as the drive itself.
Compare drive technologies for the planned workload
Use our SAS versus SATA drive guide when deciding which supported interface suits a new configuration. If solid-state storage is being considered, compare 12Gb SAS enterprise SSDs against the workload and approved storage path; an SSD is a separate specification choice from a SAS hard disk.
