Buying guide: Networking
Explore networking hardware including Ethernet adapters, Fibre Channel cards, switches, transceivers, routers and wireless access points. Narrow results by product type, link speed, ports, connector and interface.
Check cabling, switch support, firmware and host-system requirements. Optical modules and network cards must match the intended port standard and deployment.
Hardware supplied by KahnServers includes a 90-day warranty. Check current availability and the individual product specification before ordering.
Plan the connection from host to network
Identify the role of each item before comparing link speeds: a server adapter, a switch, an optical module and a router serve different parts of the installation. Record the required protocol, connection type and port count at both ends, together with the cabling and any management or licensing requirements.
Choose server network interface cards for host connectivity and network switches for the required port and uplink layout. For a storage-area network, assess Fibre Channel cards against the SAN support requirements rather than treating them as Ethernet adapters.
Check the link components together
Compare transceivers and optics with the supported modules for the exact ports. The same connector shape or advertised speed is not a complete compatibility check. State the host, switch, intended link and required quantities when preparing a network upgrade so brackets, cables, optics and power requirements can be considered together.
