Define the port layout and power requirement

Separate the required access ports from uplinks, stacking connections and management ports. Check the speed and connector of each required connection for the exact model. If powering access points or other devices, confirm the supported PoE standard and the available power budget for the proposed setup, including the supplied PSU configuration.

Match uplinks to supported transceivers and optics, then confirm cable type and the equipment at the other end. Check whether rack mounts, stacking cables or other networking accessories are included or need to be ordered separately.

Check management and software before deployment

Confirm the management features, firmware support and any licences needed for the intended configuration. A used switch listing does not itself establish an entitlement to every software feature. If the design also requires routing or security services, assess routers and firewall appliances against those requirements separately.
